WELCOME TO MUFUKAWORKS DANCE COMPANY!
OUR MISSION
To use the Afro Russe (a fusion of Traditional Zimbabwean African, Ballet, and Contemporary) style of dance as a vehicle to convey human life stories. This style was developed by Elsie Mufuka to give the dancers and audience an all-around cultural and dance experience with a complete understanding of mind, body, and soul with unity of the dance tribe. In addition, MufukaWorks honors the founder's tribe Chiweshe and performs pure traditional Zimbabwean African dances as well. MufukaWorks accomplishes this with dance education classes open to the public, pre-professional youth dance tribe, and professional dance tribe.

MufukaWorks Dance Company Overview
Founded by Elsie Mufuka in 2010, MufukaWorks Dance Company aims to provide dance education and performances for the community. With roots in Mufuka's Zimbabwean heritage, professional experience, and international travel, the company offers a variety of performances for events such as weddings, birthdays, school shows and stage shows.
Dance Education Programs
Since its inception, MufukaWorks has launched several dance education programs. These include classes at the Burton Wells Recreation Center in Beaufort, SC, and the Albemarle Road Recreation Center in Charlotte, NC. Workshops have also been held at Whale Branch Elementary and Bluffton School of Dance. The company has showcased performances at venues like the International House in Charlotte, the Gullah Festival, and the Juneteenth Festival.
Awards and Recognition
Elsie Mufuka has received numerous accolades, including the 2019 Dance Educator of the Year from Charlotte Ballet, the Outstanding Young Alumni Award from Coker University in 2018, and various "Teacher of the Year" recognitions from local schools and organizations.
Media Participation and Repertory
MufukaWorks was featured in the 2018 filming for AMERICA'S GOT TALENT. The company’s repertoire includes works such as "Return to Sender," "One Blood," and "Invisible."
